Pacha, Llaqta, Wasichay: Indigenous Space, Modern Architecture, New Art

Pacha, Llaqta and Wasichay are Quechua words that describe the relationship of cosmology, architecture and home. Quechua is the Indigenous language of the Andes.

The idea that we can build a better life through architecture is strong across the Latin world. We see it in the Americas in the translation of Concrete Art concepts into architecture.

Our modern attempts to build a better society generally fail miserably. The natural simplicity of ancient Indigenous ways works better, and we may have to return to these ways as climate change wrecks life as we know it.

The exhibition features work by seven Latinx artists who channel Quechua, Aymara, Maya, Aztec, Taíno and other Indigenous cosmologies:

The exhibition is organized by Marcela Guerrero, assistant curator and Alana Hernandez, curatorial project assistant.
