Panama gained independence from Spain on November 28, 1821. It was part of Gran Colombia (1821 – 1831) which included parts of what are now Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guayana, Panama, Peru, and Venezuela. This is Panamanian Independence Day.

Panamanian Independence Day Celebrations

In Panama, we celebrate with parades and fireworks. People dress up in traditional clothes and dance El Tamborito, the national dance of Panama.
