NYC’s Philippine Independence Day Parade goes virtual in 2020

Philippine Independence Day is June 12, 1898.

New York City’s Philippine Independence Day celebration normally includes a Mass, opening ceremony, parade, street fair and cultural festival. In 2020, New York City is on pause to manage the COVID-19 pandemic, so this year’s celebration moves online.

2020 Philippine Independence Day Virtual Commemoration

The celebration is being livestreamed on Facebook on June 7 and 12, 2020 at 10am.

The commemoration features performances by Martin Nievera, David Pomeranz, and Neocolors. Jo Awayan, Shane Ericks, Jared Martin, Angel Bonilla, Gail Banawis, Mitch Week, Angel Ram and Bryan Magsayo join the celebration.

The original plan was for the Philippine Independence Day Parade to march down Madison Avenue from 38th St to 23rd St from 11:45am to 2pm, to the Philippine Cultural Festival in Madison Square Park until 6pm. FREE.
