The Public Theater produces Shakespeare in the Park in Central Park, new theatre at its Astor Place home, and eclectic music at Joe’s Pub.

The Public is an incubator for Broadway, film, and popular culture, that produces generation-defining, award-winning theater.

It’s first production was “Hair,” the iconic musical of the 1960s. “A Chorus Line” was iconic theater of the 1970s.

In 2015, the Public premiered Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “Hamilton,” the Broadway hit of our generation. 🇵🇷

It’s Shakespeare in the Park productions offer sly commentary on current events.

In a reflection of New York City and America, The Public is an industry leader in diversity. They not only provide opportunities to playwrights and actors of color, they are training a whole new generation, and that generation looks like you ~ wherever you are from.
