NEW YORK May 18, 2014 ~ River Plate New York president Hernan Amorini invited us to watch the team play to win the Argentine Primera División Torneo Final.

Hernan promised a great show and they really delivered. The Football Factory at Legends was filled with the club’s supporters. The youngest person wearing colors was 2-year old Uma from Tigre, Argentina. A group of drummers set the beat, a cheerleader led the team’s songs, supporters contributed horn blowing, beer flowing and jumping up and down while singing the soccer chants.

We asked River Plate New York president Hernan Amorini what the win meant for the team. He said, “Coming back from relegation last season makes this win as important as the 1975 championship.” In 1975 River Plate won the championship after 18 years without a title.

After the match, the party spilled out onto the street until the NYPD asked everyone to move along. The club’s group of marchers then headed to Times Square to share with the entire world the joy of their win.

If you have no idea why soccer is so popular around world, watch a match with River Plate New York and you will understand. Thank you River Plate for a great afternoon.

River Plate New York would like to invite everyone to join them at the Football Factory at Legends this Saturday, May 24th at 8pm for the championship of Argentina San Lorenzo vs River Plate

This video starts with soccer chants from River Plate.
