Robert Calafiore is an Italian – American pinhole photographer who turns his family’s glassware collection into psychedelic art using a pinhole camera and darkroom technique.
In an age when everything is going digital, Calafiore travels in the other direction with a fine art practice that is done using hand-built pinhole cameras and traditional darkroom methods.
Italians are famous for glass. Calafiore uses the glassware collection of his Italian family to connect with his roots and Italian traditions of fine craftsmanship.
Calafiore earned an MFA in Photography at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He earned a BFA in Photography from the Hartford Art School where he has taught photography for over twenty years.

Robert Calafiore Muses opens at ClampArt in Chelsea, Manhattan with a reception on Thursday, February 1, 2018 from 6 – 8 pm. The exhibition runs 10 am – 6 pm Tuesday – Saturday, through March 24, 2018.
This exhibition includes works from a 2008 – 2011 series of male nudes inspired by Greek and Roman art.
