Robert Polidori is a French – Canadian large-format architectural photographer. He is one of the world’s most acclaimed photographers of human habitats and environments.
As a young man Polidori assisted at Anthology Film Archives in Manhattan’s East Village. Polidori started his photography career in the mid-1980s by documenting the restoration of the Château de Versailles. He has since done major projects in Havana, Cuba; Beirut, Lebanon; and Chernobyl, Ukraine.
Polidori had a major retrospective at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal. His exhibition New Orleans After the Flood set records at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2006.
His work is in major collections at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, MoMA the Museum of Modern Art, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris, France.
Polidori has published over fifteen photo books. He won the World Press Award in 1998, and the Alfred Eisenstaedt Award for Magazine Photography in 1999 and 2000.
Polidori lives and works in Ojai, California.

Robert Polidori Fra Angelico / Opus Operantis opens at Paul Kasmin Gallery in Chelsea, Manhattan with a reception on Thursday, March 8, 2018 from 6 – 8 pm. The exhibition is on view Tuesday – Saturday, through April 14, 2018.
The exhibition is of large scale color photographs of the frescoes of Fra Angelico (1395 – 1455) in the Dominican priory of San Marco in Florence, Italy.
Fra Angelico painted the frescoes between 1439 and 1444. Polidori visited the convent in 2010.
It’s strange how images so quiet and still, could speak so loudly. The images are always there, but Polidori finds the light, finds the shadows, and finds a composition that speaks up.
