Romeo Santos Brings His “Formula Vol. 3 Tour” to Barclays Center

Romeo Santos, “the King of Bachata,” is a Puerto Rican Dominican bachata superstar from The Bronx. He and his original band Aventura created urban bachata and popularized it around the world.

Though he has had a very successful solo career since 2011, Romeo still occasionally tours with Aventura.

“Romeo Santos King of Bachata” trailer.

Anthony “Romeo” Santos was born in The Bronx on July 21, 1981.

Traditional bachata in the Dominican Republic is not sung in falsetto voice (like the Bee Gees). We’re not sure, but we think Romeo Santos set the trend.

Santos does some acting as well. He appeared in Furious 7 (2015), and is the voice of Early Bird in The Angry Birds Movie (2016). His first movie was “Sanky Panky” in 2007. A sanky panky is a Dominican gigolo. That’s funny because in the Dominican Republic sanky pankys hunt lonely foreigners.

Albums

“Formula, Vol 1” (2011) was the best-selling Latin album of 2012 and was nominated for a Grammy Award. It hit number one on Billboard’s “Top Latin Albums” and “Tropical Albums” charts. The album’s top singles were “You, Promise, Mi Santa” and “La Diabla.”

“Formula, Vol 2” (2014) debuted at number 5 on the “Billboard 200” chart. The album’s top singles were “Propuesta Indecente” (Indecent Proposal), and “Odio” (Hatred). The music video for “Yo También” (Me Too) featuring Marc Anthony was a YouTube hit.

“Golden,” (2017) made Santos the #1-selling Latin artist in the United States. It reached number 1 on the Billboard “Top Latin Albums” and “Tropical Albums” charts. The album’s singles were “Héroe Favorito” (Favorite Hero), “Imitadora” (Imitator), “Bella y Sensual” (Beautiful and Sensual) and “Sobredosis” (Overdose) featuring Ozuna.

“Utopia,” (2019) hit #1 in Billboard’s Latin and Tropical categories. That makes five in a row. The album includes “Inmortal,” a ten-year reunion with Aventura. There are also collaborations with Anuell AA, Wisin & Yandel, El Chaval de la Bachata, Frank Reyes, Raulin Rodriguez and Joe Veras. The “Inmortal” video features Santos as an extraterrestrial who crash lands in the United States.

The “Formula, Vol 3” (2022) tour is selling out stadiums.

Aventura

“Obsesion” by Aventura

He was the lead singer of Bachata band Aventura. The band’s name translates as adventure, but it really means an affair.

Their song “Obesión” (2002) was a global hit. Other hits include “Un Beso,” “Los Infieles,” “El Perdedor,” “Por Un Segundo,” “Dile Al Amor” and others.

Aventura was active from 1997 to 2011. They reunited in 2016 for twenty shows at the United Palace in Washington Heights, Manhattan. The band reunited again in 2020 as Aventura: Inmortal.
