The next Snow Moon over New York City reaches its fullest on Saturday, February 24, 2024.

Names for the Snow Moon

In the north, January is the coldest month, but the heaviest snow falls in February. That is why this moon is the Snow Moon.

The snow and cold, dry, driving wind out of the north makes it hard to hunt, so the Snow Moon is also called the “Hunger Moon” or “Boney Moon.”

Animal coats are thickest at this time of year so fur hunters called it the “Trapper’s Moon.”

This moon marks a shift in the earth’s momentum from colder to warmer. Many traditions around the world mark spring in February. It’s a time when many birds hatch their first babies and others begin their spring mating rituals.

The Cheapest Time to visit New York City

There are always a lot of things to do in New York City. If you are traveling on a budget or bringing a large family, early February is the cheapest time to visit. It is when you’ll find the best deals on hotels and travel.

It doesn’t always snow in New York at this time, but if it does, the City works fine. Being an island, New York City gets less snow than the surrounding area and we have a lot of experience dealing with it. The subways are nice and warm and like they say, the City never sleeps.

Because of the cold, it’s not usually a time to just wander around aimlessly. You can find many things to do in NYC here on NewYorkLatinCulture.com and on nyctourism.com, New York City’s official tourism web site.

NYC Winter Outing provides special New York City deals from January 21 – February 9, 2020.

The Snow Moon saves you on everything from travel to hotel to meals and things to do.

Some come to New York City and watch the Snow Moon full moon rise over the Empire State Building. You’ll have more money to spend and the same unforgettable experience that is New York, New York.
