Sotheby’s Impressionist and Modern Art auction in May is one of the highlights of the art season. The exhibition is put on view with the Contemporary auction exhibition. The two make a stunning presentation of great work from the Impressionist period through contemporary time.

Sotheby’s Impressionist and Modern Art Spring 2017

The Evening sale will auction 52 works on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 7pm.

One of the auction highlights is Pablo Picasso’s Tete d’Homme (1969). The painting has an inner light. Honestly, it looks like it is lit from the back. Compared to all the other art in the exhibition, Tete d’Homme absolutely glows.

The painting, from the collection of a European gentleman, is estimated to sell for between eight and twelve million dollars.

Highlights include works by Paul Signac (French), Alberto Giacometti (Italian), Claude Monet (French), and Georges Braque (French).

There are other fine works by Paul Gaugin (French), Henri Matisse (French), Le Corbusier (French), Jean Arp (French), Giorgio Morandi (Italian), Pierre Bonnard (French), Auguste Rodin (French), Giorgio de Chirico (Italian), Germaine Richier (French), Marino Marini (Italian), Edgar Degas (French), Émile Bernard (French), Fernand Léger (French), Giacomo Balla (Italian), Joan Miró (Spanish), and Aristide Maillol (French).
