The Village Halloween Parade 2021 marches up Sixth Avenue from Spring St to 16th St on Halloween October 31 at 7pm. FREE with VIP options. halloween-nyc.com

The Village Halloween Parade brings out hundreds of giant puppets, over 50 bands from around the world, all kinds of dancers, and the wild imaginations of your fellow New Yorkers. OMG.

The Parade almost didn’t happen this year because the pandemic didn’t give enough time for fundraising. Jason Feldman and his wife Missy stepped in to save Halloween. Thank you Jason and Missy.

This year’s parade is dedicated to the children of New York City who didn’t get to celebrate Halloween last year. (At this parade, adults become children again.).

There are two related themes:

  1. Let’s Play
  2. All Together Now

That’s perfect. One of the lessons of the pandemic is that we all need to play and we can all play together as New Yorkers.

The 2021 Grand Marshal is Randy Rainbow. There is a parade section devoted to his fans.

The organizers are asking everyone to be real creative with their masks. LOL.

Marching in the Village Halloween Parade

Anyone in costume is welcome to march in the parade. It’s a bit long for little ones, but you can always jump out when they get tired.

Lineup is on Sixth Avenue at Canal Street at 6:30pm to about 9pm.

VIP tickets enable you to skip the line between 6:30 and 8:30pm. $100. halloween-nyc.com

There are many different special sections, though some of them cost money (like everything else in New York City).

Watching the Village Halloween Parade

You can watch the Parade on either side of Sixth Avenue from Spring St in SoHo to 16th St in Chelsea. The biggest crowds are between Bleecker and 14th St.

VIP tickets enable you to skip the lineup line between 6:30 and 8:30pm, and provide a VIP viewing area near the telecast for the best viewing. These sell out, so hurry. From $100. halloween-nyc.com

If you are stuck at home, you can watch the parade live on NY1 from 8-9:30pm.

And the Party is On

The Official NYC Halloween Parade Afterparty is Webster Hell at Webster Hall. It goes from 8pm to late. $40. websterhall.com

After the parade, marchers stream out across Chelsea and back down into Greenwich Village. The street parties carry on long into the night.

We were afraid to join in on our first year in New York City, but when we finally did, we found nothing but good natured fun. Many cosplay characters act out wild scenes in the middle of the street.

You never saw anything like this. Halloween in New York City is really fun!
