This was my first Uptown Fashion Week, so I didn’t know what to expect. After the first night, all I have is #Love #Admiration #Respect for Founder Albania Rosario. The Dominican-American empresaria (business woman) created Uptown Fashion Week from nothing but vision, passion, and drive.
Uptown Fashion Week Spring Summer 2017
Rosario gets funding from brand sponsors. Then Uptown Fashion Week fully sponsors Latin American designers to come to New York City for a shot at the big time. The program generates buzz by mixing up-and-coming designers with established names in fashion.
Uptown Fashion Week also promotes social consciousness. For 2016, Uptown Fashion Week partnered with the United Nations to raise awareness about the inequality of women in the workplace and life.
We strongly believe that fashion is not just about dresses, shoes, and brands, it is about the opportunity for human expression. Fashion can be utilized as a vehicle by which the rights of humans may be embraced, and discrimination may be combated. Improving the awareness, access and conditions of fundamental freedoms is in the best interest of our species as a whole.”
