In New York City, it’s a place to see and be seen during the transition from summer to fall. It is quite a social scene.

We may be seeing the beginnings of a new generation of tennis stars. This US Open broke its all-time attendance record.

September 11, 2022 ~ 19-year-old Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz beat Norway’s Casper Ruud 6-4, 2-6, 7-6(1) and 6-3 to win his first Grand Slam and become the new world men’s #1. He is the youngest ever men’s #1. Alcaraz has risen to the top of the sport in just two years. He is originally from a small village near Murcia, the city between Valencia and Málaga on Spain’s Mediterranean coast.

September 10, 2022 ~ Poland’s World #1 Iga Świątek beat Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur 6-2, 7-6(5) to win the US Open 2022 women’s championship. It’s the 21 year-old’s third Grand Slam title. She won the French Open in 2020 and 2022. She’s on a hot streak having won 37 matches and six titles in a row. She’s been so dominant that fans are calling her “Iga’s bakery” for all the bagels she makes (6-0 wins). Iga just may be the new dominating force in women’s tennis. 🇵🇱

August 25, 2022 ~ The current World Rank #6 Novak Djokovic has withdrawn because he cannot enter the United States without being vaccinated.

August 9, 2022 ~ Six-time US Open champion Serena Williams announced her coming “retirement” from tennis. All eyes are on her, hoping she can be a champion just “One More Time.”

Tournament Schedule

US Open Tennis 2022 qualifying is at Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Queens, Tuesday-Friday, August 23-26, 2022.

The first week of the two week tournament gets up to the Round of 16. The second week brings Quarterfinals, Semifinals and Finals. The big games are the Semifinals and Finals on Thursday-Sunday, September 8-11.
