World Cup 2014

The World Cup is the world’s most watched sporting event. The World Cup 2014 is in Brazil, a country where soccer (futebol) is part of the national identity.

After three years of qualifying, 32 teams play for the world championship of soccer over about a month.

Ximena got together with a few friends to watch the opening of the World Cup 2014 at the Football Factory at Legends on June 12, 2014.

After all the bad news about construction problems in the buildup to the Cup, the stadium worked pretty well. Brazil took the match 3-1 with some controversial refereeing.

Everyone had a great time.

June 13 ~ Netherlands Shocks Spain

In a rematch of the 2010 World Cup Final, Netherlands humiliated Spain 5-1. This completely unbalanced the status quo of world soccer and made this a more wide-open Cup. Spain famously lost the first match of the last World Cup and went on to win it, but this was a total defeat that makes it much harder for Spain to come back the same way again.
