Brimstone & Glory

Brimstone & Glory is Viktor Jakovleski’s 2017 documentary about the fireworks industry near Mexico City. In Spanish with English subtitles.

Brimstone & Glory captures the Timeless Beauty of Fire

“Fire and Brimstone” is a biblical expression for God’s anger. There is no anger here, only the timeless beauty of fire.

Brimstone & Glory tells the story of the fireworks makers of Tultepec, a small town north of Mexico City that hosts the National Pyrotechnic Festival.

Yes, I’m afraid of dying.
In this line of work, it’s day to day…

…When the burning starts
you feel time stand still.

The festival honors San Juan de Dios, the patron saint of firework makers. It’s ten days of showing off by families who have been making fireworks for generations.

Brimstone & Glory Film Festivals

Brimstone & Glory opened in New York City at the 2017 Margaret Mead Film Festival at the American Museum of Natural History in Manhattan’s Upper West Side.

The film won “Best Documentary Feature” at the SF Film Festival. It was an official selection at the True/False Film Fest and the Hotdocs film festival.
