Crossing the Line Festival

Paris was the world’s cultural capital until New York City claimed the title after World War II. French culture is unique because the French are a Germanic people who were Latinized by the Romans, and Latin sensibilities survived the Roman Era. Normally the Germanic mind and Latin heart don’t get along, but when they connect, the result is truly world-class.

France exploited Africa a lot, so today the Francophone world includes lots of African Diasporic culture. French humor is unique. It has an almost childlike quality, but is actually very sophisticated, and something we can all enjoy in these crazy times.

Americans miss out on a lot of wonderful French culture because of the language barrier, but when you’re crossing the line, there are no barriers.
