Andrés Cepeda “Bogotá” opens in the Teatro Colón opera house in Downtown Bogotá

Cepeda is only middle-aged, but one the things that happens as you mature is that you reflect back on the moments that made you. That’s what his album “Bogotá” is all about.

Andrés Cepeda

Cepeda came up in 1990 with Poligamia, a Bogotá rock band. Their hits include “Desvanecer” and “Mi Generación” became anthems of that time and place.

He went solo in 1999 with “Sé Morir” which went platinum in just one month.

Cepeda coached eleven seasons of the “La Voz Colombia” talent show.

He recently released “Las Pilanderas,” a duet with Celia Cruz. Across the Latin world, people respond to their national music AND Celia Cruz. She is loved universally and until global phenomenons like “Despacito” “Macarena,” and artists like Bad Bunny, Celia did more than any other artist to popularize Latin music around the world.

A young Cepeda happened to be in a studio when Celia recorded in Bogotá many years ago. He always dreamed of singing with her. After discovering old tapes of hers, he got the permissions and made the record. Thanks Omer (Celia’s manager).

“Las Pilanderas” is a fine cumbia salsa about women who grind grains in a large wooden mortar and pestle. Many Caribbean songs have a second meaning. If you put some azúcar on that, you can guess what it’s about.

It’s really nice to hear Celia’s voice. It’s soothing in a way. The video looks like it was done with AI. Welcome to the future.

Cepeda has been nominated for nineteen Latin Grammys and won five. His latest album “Bogotá,” a tribute to the hometown that launched his career, won the 2025 Latin Grammy for Best Traditional Pop Album.
