The cover image isn’t a parade picture, but I love it because when I see la bonita bandera, I know I’m in The Bronx.

Honoring the Past, Inspiring the Future

This year’s theme — “Honoring the Past, Inspiring the Future” — reflects the legacy and resilience of Puerto Rican heritage in the Bronx. For four decades, this parade has been the heartbeat of the borough’s Boricua community, and the 40th edition promises to be the most spirited yet.

This is a form of sankofa, the Akan Ghanaian concept that reclaiming our roots helps us progress in the future. Puerto Ricans have so much wonderful culture, more than rumba, bomba, plena, salsa. There’s reggaeton, Latin trap, and lately Bad Bunny’s message that it’s cool to be an American who speaks Spanish.

The festivities kick off Wednesday, May 27, with the Bronx Puerto Rican Day Parade Gala — an elegant evening bringing together community leaders, supporters, and special guests to celebrate Puerto Rican culture and recognize outstanding contributions to the community.

Then on Saturday, the parade itself fills the Grand Concourse with music, dance, colorful floats, community organizations, and thousands of attendees proudly waving the Puerto Rican flag. Starting at 11 AM at 164th Street and the Grand Concourse, this is a full day of Bronx pride at its loudest and most joyful.
