Carlos Vives launches his 30th Anniversary “Tour al Sol,” a concert from sun to sun, at Radio City Music Hall. It’s been 30 years since his iconic album “La Tierra del Olvido” updated traditional vallenato into popular music. The song’s video shows the incredible natural beauty and diversity of the land in Colombia. It’s come to represent the country.

Listen for a version of “Buscando el Mar,” Vives’ April 2026 collaboration with Dominican merengue pop star Juan Luis Guerra. It was inspired by Macondo, the Colombian town in “Cien años de soledad,” the Nobel Prize-winning novel by Gabriel García Márquez that is also a poetic history of Latin America.
He called this tour, a tour from sun to sun. It may be a reference to the fact that Colombia has coastline on both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. You can watch the sun rise on one side of the country and set on the other.
