DOC NYC 2022 is America’s biggest documentary film festival, and considered one of the best in the world.

DOC NYC 2022, America’s largest documentary film festival, is at IFC Center in Manhattan’s West Village, SVA Theatre and Cinépolis Chelsea, Wednesday, November 9-17, 2022. It continues online to November 27. 🇧🇷 🇨🇺 🇩🇴 🇨🇦 🇮🇹 ✡️ 🇻🇪 🇺🇸

The 2022 festival presents over 200 films with 29 World Premiers and 27 US Premieres. There are competitions for US and International films. A Kaleidoscope Competition presents adventurous documentaries. The Metropolis Competition presents New York stories. There are additional sections on music, sports, activism and the arts.

Many of the films are about people who did amazing things – against the odds. There are 27 Latinx/Latin American screenings, 10 African/African American screenings, and 2 Indigenous/Native American screenings.

Individual films from $19. An All Film Pass is $995.

Opening Night Film

The opening night film is the US Premiere of “Maya and the Wave” by Stephanie Johnes. It’s the story of how Brazilian surfer Maya Gabeira overcame death to make history in male-dominated big wave surfing. Centerpiece Film 1

One of DOC NYC’s centerpiece films is “Gumbo Coalition” by Barbara Kopple. It follows civil rights leaders Marc Morial and Janet Murguía as they work to empower African American and Latin communities during the Covid-19 pandemic. Centerpiece Film 2

One of DOC NYC’s centerpiece films is “Cirque du Soleil: Without a Net” by Dwan Porter. The director goes behind the scenes at the world’s greatest circus, as it worked to reopen it’s “O” production in Las Vegas during the Covid-19 pandemic. The filmmakers and some Cirque du Soleil artists will do Q&A at SVA Theatre in Chelsea, Manhattan on Sunday, November 13, 2022. docnyc.net 🇨🇦

Closing Night Film

DOC NYC’s closing night film is the World Premiere of The Conspiracy” by Maxim Pozdorovkin. The animated documentary traces the impact of anti-Semitism on three Jewish family dynasties over 250 years. The filmmakers do Q&A at SVA Theatre on Thursday, November 17, 2022. docnyc.net ✡️
