Francisco Ugarte “Three Lines, One Square”

Francisco Ugarte is a Mexican artist based in Guadalajara.

His solo exhibition Three Lines, One Square is at Cristin Tierney New York June 1 – July 7, 2017.

These paintings look like simple minimalist brushworks with an Asian flavor. They are actually finely detailed paintings of acrylic brushworks. Ugarte seems to have taken the still lifes of Claudio Bravo to a minimalist extreme.

Francisco Ugarte Education

Ugarte has a BA in Architecture from the Western Institute of Superior and Technological Studies (Universidad Jesuita de Guadalajara), a Jesuit university in Guadalajara.

Francisco Ugarte Exhibitions

Ugarte has had solo exhibitions at Marfa Contemporary (Texas), the Clemente Orozco Museum (Guadalajara), and the Experimental Museum El Eco in Mexico City.

Francisco Ugarte Collections

Ugarte’s work is part of the Charpenel Collection, Colección Jumex, Coppel Collection, Mattatuck Museum, Orange County Museum of Art, and the Cabañas Cultural Institute.

Francisco Ugarte Residencies

Ugarte has done residencies at the Careyes Foundation and Casa Wabi, both in Mexico.
