Handel’s ‘Messiah’ at the New York Philharmonic and Trinity Church

Handel’s choral work Messiah is one of the most popular choral works.

It is a Christmas tradition in the United States and an Easter tradition elsewhere. Christmas is the world’s most popular Latin holiday. George Frideric Handel (German, 1685 – 1759) was a German Baroque composer. Baroque music was Italian in character.

The English-language choral work was written in 1741. It premiered in Dublin, Ireland in 1742.
