Italian NYC

Italian culture is the root of western civilization through the Romans and the Renaissance. We are one of the immigrant communities who define New York City. Some of Italian NYC remains in Manhattan’s Little Italy and Arthur Avenue in the Bronx, but today Bensonhurst, Brooklyn is the most Italian neighborhood.

Opera and Ballet are ItalianIn the Americas, we are known for filmmaking, art, and fashion. Italian food has become American food. Roman Catholicism is one of the world’s great religions and was part of the Latin American conquest. It plays a major role in our lives because when states fail, the church is the community. Italian celebrations tend to be Catholic holidays like Easter and Christmas. In New York City, Columbus Day is our big celebration. The Feast of San Gennaro is popular in Little Italy.
