Juventus Rivalries

As the leading Italian team, Juventus has several intense rivalries.

Italian Derby (Derby d’Italia) with Internazionale

The Derby d’Italia (Italian Derby) with Internazionale of Milan is a rivalry between Turin and Milan, the two industrial cities of northern Italy.

It is also a rivalry between the Piedmont and Lombardy regions, and even a political rivalry.

Turin Derby (Derby della Mole) with Torino

The Derby della Mole (Turin Derby) is a cross-town rivalry with Torino. Torino was founded by players from Juventus so the rivalry is strong.

Roma

Juventus often competes with Roma because they are usually among the best Series A teams.

Juventus 2018-19 Season

The big news is that Cristiano Ronaldo joined in July from Real Madrid for a €100 million transfer fee.

Juve is playing for success in Europe.

This season the team plays:

  • Supercoppa Italiana Final (in January next year instead of August)
  • UEFA Champions League (entering in Group Stage)

  • Mattia Perin (#22) is Italian (2018)

  • Paulo Dybala (#10) is an Argentine striker and was 2017-2018’s top scorer
  • Douglas Costa #11 is a Brazilian right or left wing
  • Juan Cuadrado #16 is a Colombian right wing

Chievo vs Juventus (First Serie A game)

After some postponements caused by the bridge collapse in Genoa, this is actually the first  Serie A game of the season.

It’s also Ronaldo’s first start for Juve.

The game was attended by more people than live in the small town where it was played.

Khedira put the first point up. Chievo equalized and went ahead. Bani equalized at 75 minutes.

In extra time, Ronaldo crashed so hard into Chievo goalkeeper Stefano Sorrentino, that Sorrentino was taken off in a stretcher with a broken nose, bruised shoulder and whiplash. Ronaldo’s goal was denied.

Bernardeschi scored the winner.

The team has 13 Coppa Italia titles. The last was in 2017-18.

Supercoppa Italiana

The team has 8 Supercoppa Italian titles. The last was in 2018-19.

European Championships

UEFA Champions League

Juve won UEFA Champions League twice, in 1995-96 and 1984-85. We were runners-up in 2017, losing to Real and Ronaldo.

UEFA Europa League

Juve is a 3x winner. The last was in 1992-93. Juve has mostly been playing UEFA Champions League since then.
