Lalo Rodríguez was a Puerto Rican salsa singer from Carolina, Puerto Rico.

He joined Eddie Palmieri’s band in 1973 when he was just sixteen years old. This got him better known out in the world. At first he alternated lead vocals with Ismael Quintana, but eventually took over. Palmieri gave him the nickname “Lalo.”

Lalo was one of the pioneers of salsa romántica. Salsa romántica now sounds almost quaint, but in its time was considered very naughty. Lalo’s biggest hit was “Ven Devórame Otra Vez” (Come Devour Me Again).

Rodriguez worked in the days of vinyl. Today you can find those records on the secondary market and his music on compilations.

It’s one of those songs that when it starts playing, everyone starts dancing and singing along. In 2018, Billboard magazine critics named it one of the Top 10 salsa recordings ever.

“Estoy Aqui” (1996) was Lalo’s last studio album.

He recorded another album “Con Todo Mi Corazon” in 2013, but it was never released.
