The Latin Alternative Music Conference (LAMC) is an annual music industry conference and Spanish-language Rock showcase in New York City in July.
Spanish-language Rock, now called Latin Alternative, has its roots in Rock Nacional of Argentina. There were Mexican bands before that sang Spanish versions of English songs, but Argentines were the first to compose their own Rock songs in Spanish.
Los Gatos were the first band to write their own Rock and Roll songs in Spanish. The music spread across Latin America and Spain. It was revolutionary for Latin kids to hear their feelings expressed in their native language.
This led to bands like Almendra and Vox Dei. The 1970s brought artists like Gustavo Santaolalla, León Gieco, Sui Generis, and Charly Garcia.
Santaolalla later moved to Los Angeles where he became the father of Rock en Español in the United States and a multiple Academy Award winner.
Today Latin Alternative is big enough to support its own Spanish-language market in the United States. Latin Alternative touches every genre in Rock.

Chilean rocker Mon Laferte, Nuyorican Hip-Hop artist Destiny Frasqueri, and Puerto Rican electronic band ÌFÉ Central Park SummerStage from 5-10pm. Free
Amaral (Spanish), C. Tangana, Nunatak, Nora Norman and Los Nastys perform in the Sounds from Spain Showcase at the Highline Ballroom in Chelsea. 8pm – 1am.
Thursday, July 13
Alex Anwandter (Chilean), Beatrice Inferno, Buyepongo, Gepe, Javiera Mena, Jesse Baez, Nora Norman, Síndrome Moscow & Silvina Moreno play an Acoustic Showcase at SOB’s in Hudson Square/SoHo from 6-8:30pm.
A.CHAL (Peruvian), Audri Nix (Puerto Rican), Javiera Mena, Jesse Baez, Juan Ingaramo, and Indios play an Indie Showcase at the Highline Ballroom in Chelsea from 8pm – 1am.
