The 36th Loisaida Festival 2023 kicks off summer in Alphabet City in the East Village with a community parade, live music, theatre, street food, artisanal crafts, and lots of family activities; on Avenue C (Loisaida Avenue) between 5th and 12th St in the East Village; on Sunday, May 28, 2023 from 12-5pm. FREE!
The neighborhood used to be called the Lower East Side. It got rebranded as the East Village, but really is both.
Come see the vibrant neighborhood of Alphabet City! Old timers will remember our reputation but that was long ago, now it’s cool. Come party with us!
Loisaida Festival 2023 Community Parade
The 2023 Loisaida Festival Community Parade is led by Afro-Brazilian samba reggae marching band Batalá New York. 🇧🇷 🇯🇲
Main Stage
The main stage is on Avenue C at 12th St. There’s lots to see.
David “DASO” Soto hosts while DJ Andre “Redstar” Cirilo spins.
- Cecilia Villar Eljuri plays her personal blend of Spanish, Lebanese, Ecuadorian and American music. 🇪🇨 🇱🇧 🇪🇸
- Kinto Zonó, plays contemporary bomba and plena from Puerto Rico. 🇵🇷
- Lower East Salsa tributes the salsa legends.
- MC NaboriNyah from Puerto Rico does his urban reggaeton thing. 🇵🇷
Theater Lab
Theater Lab is a mini-festival of short performances hosted by Puerto Rican director Renoly Santiago with Puerto Rican theater company Teatro Yerbabruja. 🇵🇷
It’s in the Plaza Cultural de Armando Perez Community Garden on Avenue C at 9th St.
Community Garden
Conjunto Los Fascinantes will play música típica in a cooling station and break area for seniors.
Street Activations
Check out the Casa Adela Rumba at the Puerto Rican restaurant, and also the Charlie Rosario exhibition at La Sala de Pepe on 5th St. There’s lots of artisanal crafts, free domino tables for a game, a bike valet, basketball, a mural by Thrive Collective, BioBus mobile education, bouncy houses, pony rides, and more. It’s just fun! 🇵🇷
Loisaida Festival Afterparty
