Manhattan Theatre Club
The Manhattan Theatre Club is a non-profit theatrical producer that started Off-Off Broadway in 1972. It has grown into a major Broadway and Off-Broadway producer. The focus is on new work.
It’s really a theatre incubator that hosts productions on Broadway at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre and Off-Broadway in two theaters at New York City Center.
On Broadway, this season, the Manhattan Theatre Club presents Ruben Santiago-Hudson’s Lackawanna Blues and Phylicia Rashad in Dominique Morisseau’s Skeleton Crew. Santiago-Hudson is Puerto Rican descent. Dominique Morisseau is Haitian descent. Phylicia Rashad is American, but was raised in Mexico so she is fluent in Spanish.
This season’s Off-Broadway plays including Morning Sun with Edie Falco, Prayer for the French Republic by Joshua Harmon, and Golden Shield by Anchuli Felicia King. Falco is Italian descent. Harmon is Jewish and his play is about French Judaism. Anchuli Felicia King is Thai Australian.
