Neighboring Scenes 2017 is January 26 – 31, 2017.
Panamerican Machinery
Perhaps in a nod to current events, opening night film is Joaquín del Paso’s Mexican comic satire Panamerican Machinery (Maquinaria Panamericana, 2016).
It’s the story of what happens when the owner of a moribund construction firm dies on Friday and the workers discover there will be no pay or severance because the owner has been paying them out of his own pocket. The workers lock themselves in the compound while they decide what to do and the weekend becomes increasingly surreal.
Panamerican Machinery screens Thursday, January 26 at 7pm with Q&A with the director and a reception after the film.
A Decent Woman
Closing night film is the U.S. premiere of Lukas Rinner’s comedy A Decent Woman (Los Decentes Argentine, 2016). Belén takes a job as a maid in a gated community, but slowly embraces the character of the nudist colony next door. Civilizations collide.
A Decent Woman screens January 31 at 7:30pm with director Q&A.
