Neighboring Scenes is Film Society’s annual festival of new Latin American cinema. It is produced with Cinema Tropical, the leading presenter of Latin American movies in the United States.

António has been skipping class to write a play based on Dostoevsky’s short story White Nights (1848) about four nights in a new relationship. After arguing with his father about skipping school, António heads to his ex-girlfriend’s Lisbon flat for comfort. There he meets Débora, a Brazilian traveling to Russia. Naturally he ends up romantically involved with both women. As the white nights pass, 1, 2, 3, we see the uncertainty of life.

Adrián Villar Rojas is a renowned visual artist. He recently had a rooftop exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art titled The Theater of Disappearance. It was a reference to the disappeared from Argentina’s dirty war. In the film, Rojas looks for beauty among frozen conflicts in Morocco, the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea, and other places around the world.
