Tiler Peck World Premiere

Tiler Peck’s world premiere is set to Édouard Lalo’s “Symphonie Espagnole” (Spanish Symphony) featuring violin soloist multiple Grammy-winner Hilary Hahn. Lalo was a French composer of Spanish descent. “Symphonie Espagnole” is one of the great Spanish-inflected works in the violin repertoire.

Christopher Wheeldon “Continuum” Company Premiere

City Ballet dances the Company Premiere of Christopher Wheeldon’s “Continuum” (2002), part of an acclaimed trilogy of leotard ballets which was partly influenced by the downing of the World Trade Center on 9/11/2001. The piece isn’t about that event, but the tragedy was heavy on every New Yorker’s mind well into 2002. Wheeldon chose Ligeti scores in a move away from Romantic classical music.

“The Firebird”

Ballet fans will be interested in contrasting Dance Theatre of Harlem’s “Firebird” with City Ballet’s “The Firebird.” It is part of the All Balanchine III program with “Symphony in C,” and “Agon” on specific dates between April 21 – May 3.

“Coppélia”

“Coppélia” the comic ballet about a life-sized mechanical doll who almost ruins an engagement, closes the season from May 22-31.
