The opening film is the New York Premiere of “America” (2022) by Ofir Raul Graizer (The Cakemaker). A Chicago swimming coach returns home to Israel and and is confronted by sexual identity and personal trauma. New York Jewish Film Festival 2023 (America: Ofir Raul Graizer)

I am Not” (2022) by Tomer Heymann is a documentary about a boarding school student’s adoption in Guatemala, a false Asperger’s diagnosis, and a trip to his birth country. The centerpiece film is the world premiere of “Charlotte Salomon: Life and the Maiden” (2022) by Delphine Coulin & Muriel Coulin. Salomon was a prolific Berlin multimedia artist who was ahead of her time. She was murdered in Auschwitz at age 26. The closing film is “Alegría” (2021) by Violeta Salama. A single mom who disowns her Jewish heritage returns to the Spanish African enclave Melilla, for her niece’s Orthodox wedding.
