The New York Philharmonic or NY Phil is one of the world’s great symphony orchestras.

Its home stage is David Geffen Hall at Lincoln Center.

Dutch conductor Jaap van Zweden leads the orchestra in the 2023-24 season. 🇳🇱

Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel takes the baton in 2026. He is a community builder who arrives just in time to lead the new music renaissance in New York City right now. The change is already obvious. 🇻🇪

Popular traditions include the Memorial Day Concert at Cathedral of St John the Divine, Concerts in the Parks in June, and Handel’s “Messiah” in December.

Handel’s “Messiah” is a popular holiday concert.

Leonard Bernstein, the legendary composer of “West Side Story,” was music director from 1958 to 1969.

Marcos Balter, the Brazilian composer, wrote “Oyá” a piece about the Yoruba orisha of death and rebirth for the reopening of David Geffen Hall in 2022. We never expected an African Diaspora saint to be honored at Lincoln Center. Thank you. ¡Ashé! 🇧🇷
