Fort Greene, Brooklyn (Demerzel21/Dreamstime)

Fort Greene, Brooklyn is a historic cultural district next to Downtown Brooklyn, the Brooklyn Navy Yard, Clinton Hill and Prospect Heights.

The Williamsburg Savings Bank Tower (1929) is Fort Greene’s old landmark. It used to stand all alone. From some angles it looks rather like a giant phallus over Brooklyn. There are now more skyscrapers nearby.

The boundaries of Fort Greene are roughly:

Flushing Avenue
Flatbush Ave | Fort Greene | Vanderbilt Ave
Atlantic Ave
