Latin Artists at Galerie Lelong

New York-based Chilean artist, architect, and filmmaker Alfredo Jaar is famous for his 1987 Times Square installation A Logo for America, 1987.

Brazilian abstract artist Hélio Oiticica (Rio de Janeiro 1937-1980) was part of the Neo-Concrete Movement (1959-1961) in Brazil with Lygia Clark.

Brazilian conceptual artist Cildo Meireles (Rio de Janeiro, 1948) is known for installations and sculptures with political overtones. Like Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso in music, Meireles developed his personal language during the Brazilian dictatorship of the 1960s and 1970s.

Cuban abstract artist Zilia Sánchez (Havana, 1926) is best known for her shaped canvases.

Cuban installation artist Ana Mendieta (Havana, 1948; New York City, 1985) is known for representations of female identity.

New York-based Italian artist Angelo Filomeno (Otsuni, Italy, 1963) combines painting and embroidery.
