Zilia Sánchez: Eros

An exhibition of Cuban artist Zilia Sánchez: Eros opens with a reception at Galerie Lelong in Chelsea, NYC on Thursday, November 21, 2019 from 6-8pm. On view Tuesday-Saturday through January 18, 2020. FREE

The opening reception is Thursday, November 21, 2019 from 6-8pm.

The exhibition shows the artist’s new freestanding work and her first marble and bronze sculptures.

It is running concurrently with Zilia Zánchez: Soy Isla, a touring retrospective currently at El Museo del Barrio.

Zilia Sánchez

The artist was born in Cuba. She lives and works in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Zilia Sánchez is a Cuban artist known for her shaped abstract canvases. Her sensual abstractions break the picture plane before standing on their own.

Her life’s work is inspired by one moment. Once on her way home to Cuba, she saw a bed sheet that had been hung out to dry, but was shaped by being blown against a pipe. Voila!
