Peso Pluma (Billboard Latin Music Week)

Peso Pluma is a young Mexican singer-songwriter whose urban styling of regional Mexican music has quickly taken him to the top of the charts. He is one of the artists who has taken corridos tumbados global. These are basically sweet Mexican ballads about hard-core gangster life.

“Ella Baila Sola” (2023) by Eslabon Armado y Peso Pluma is the song that made Pluma a global star

Hassan Emilio Kabande Laija was born in Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico on June 15, 1999. His mother’s family is from Sinaloa. His Lebanese Palestinian father is from Chiapas, Mexico. Many people don’t realize that Latin America has significant Lebanese and Palestinian immigration.

Pluma grew up in Gaudalajara, the home of mariachi / ranchera. He taught himself to play guitar from YouTube. His stage name means “money pen.”

Part of his appeal is his regular guy image and smokey voice. People can really relate to that. He often looks like someone you’d meet on a road trip in Mexico. He has some comic sense too. His expression often seems to say, “I can’t believe this is happening to me. Can you?”
