This is the world’s largest Philippine Independence Day Parade outside of the Philippines. The first parade was in 1990. It helps to raise funds for Filipino charities. Filipinos and friends come from all over the Northeast to celebrate.
Philippines Independence Day celebrates the Filipino declaration of independence from Spain, by Emilio Aguinaldo, on June 12, 1898.
The Philippines has a second independence day on July 4. That day, now called Philippine Republic Day, celebrates the signing of the Treaty of Manila which gave the Philippines independence from the United States in 1946.
Preliminary Events
The celebration begins with a flag raising ceremony at the Philippine Center New York, on Fifth Avenue at 46th St in Midtown at 8am.
There is an Independence Mass in Kalayaan Hall in the Philippine Center from 8:30-9:30am

The parade begins with an opening ceremony on Madison Avenue at 38th St, at 11:45am.

The Philippine Independence Day Street Fair is on 26th St, between Madison and Park Avenue, from 11am – 6pm. 🇵🇭
Look for world-famous filipino street food, artisanal arts and crafts, and more.
The Philippine Independence Day Cultural Festival stage is on Madison Avenue at 25th St, alongside of Madison Square Park, from 2-6pm. 🇵🇭
