The Kicking + Screening soccer film festival is screening “Playing for Peace” online at kickingandscreening.com on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at 7pm. Free with rsvp
The film, by Arielle Thomas Sabol, is about the HaPoel Be’er Sheva soccer club in Be’er Sheva, Israel. The city has a roughly equal number of Jewish and Muslim residents. The team hasn’t won a championship in 40 years.
Everything turns around when the new woman owner Alona Barkat promotes her vision of tolerance and acceptance. Tolerance and acceptance built a team of champions.
If we can achieve this on the soccer field and in the stands, why can’t we do the same in real life?
The screening is a co-production with the Women In Soccer network. There will be a discussion afterwards.
We love the film’s tagline:
“In the most unlikely place, peace is more than just a goal.”

It’s time for us all to start playing for peace.
