Terraza 7 Latin

Terraza 7 (courtesy)

Terraza 7 is a Colombian American-owned, Pan-Latin bar and live music venue in Elmhurst, Queens. If you are Latino, you will feel at home the moment you walk in. It’s also the home of Acoustic Memories, a non-profit that supports immigrant classical music and jazz artists.

Bands play on a stage suspended over the bar, so you can drink and listen for free, or pay for seating upstairs to watch the musicians. 4pm to 4am hours make Terraza 7 a great late night spot. The Mexican food trucks around the corner on Roosevelt Avenue are good too.

Latin Music at Terraza 7

MARCH 2026

Cuban Rumba

Román Díaz & La Rumba de los Lunes play Cuban rumba; at Terraza 7 Latin bar and live music venue; in Elmhurst, Queens; on Monday, March 9, 2026, from 7:30pm – 10:30pm. Free at the bar. $20 Mezzanine seating. 🇨🇺

Díaz is one of THE Godfathers of rumba in New York City. Really. His student, Pedrito Martínez, is famous as the world’s first-call rumbero. Díaz has been Pedrito’s spiritual godfather and music business mentor. Román is a son of Obatalá, sort of the father of the Orishas.

Iroko “Kíko” Keith ~ Never thought about it before, but in a family tree way, Díaz is my great godfather, and one of the godfather’s of New York Latin Culture Magazine because his student’s drum changed my life.

It called me into the spiritual world of Cuban/Puerto Rican Lucumí, one of the three main African Diasporic religions that developed in the Americas. I don’t do religion (so I’m unofficial), but without a doubt, am a son of Eleguá and Yemayá because they and other Orishas keep showing up in my life. Pedrito’s drum gave me another way to see the world, and taught me to love and respect the African Diaspora, which is core Latin, and core American too.

Monday, the first day of the week, is Elegua’s day because we start things by asking Eleguá to connect us with God (same God as everyone else, just different names). That makes Monday an important day for Latin drummers because most are Lucumí. Terraza 7 was not on my work plan today, but I felt the need to look through New York’s global music clubs. In my mind’s eye, I saw a guy dressed in white. It was Díaz and Obatalá. I was taught to always answer the call of the drum, because it is sacred. ¡Aché!
