Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball Drop 2023

The Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball Drop 2023 has been a New York City tradition since 1907. It involves a 12,000 pound ball made of Waterford Crystal and over a ton of confetti.

It’s something you should do once in your New York life. It’s free, but we recommend renting a room or making a dinner reservation at one of the Times Square restaurants or hotels. The square is locked down some time before 6pm, so you have to go early and wait six hours in the cold. Bathrooms can be challenging.

The Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball Drop 2023 is in Times Square NYC on Saturday, December 31, 2022 from 6pm – 12:20am. Free.

Go hours early to enter the square. There are no bathrooms, so prepare for that. There are no outdoor Covid restrictions right now.

We recommend getting a hotel room or a reservation in one of the Times Square restaurants such as Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, Olive Garden, or others.

The celebration starts at 6pm when the ball is run up the pole on top of One Times Square. Chelsea Cutler, JVKE and dancers ANEW will perform. The ball drop countdown begins 10 seconds before midnight.

You can watch the show online at timessquarenyc.org at 6pm. Ryan Seacrest hosts “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” on ABC-7 at 8pm.
