Uptown Manhattan is above 59th St. It’s Central Park, the Upper West Side and Upper East Side. Uptown reaches up to 110th St on the West Side and 96th St on the East Side.
When a New Yorker says they are “going uptown,” it just means they are going north. But depending on who is talking, “going uptown” can mean the Upper West Side, Central Park and Upper East Side, or it can mean farther up into Upper Manhattan above Central Park and East 96th St.
Uptown Manhattan Is Another World
The streets surrounding Central Park house the most expensive real estate in New York City. Fifth Avenue along Central Park is Museum Mile.
Lincoln Center and the American Museum of Natural History are popular cultural destinations on the West Side.
Madison Avenue in the Upper East Side is New York City’s most prestigious shopping district.
