We Are All Part of NYC’s Cosmopolitan Mosaic

The show, curated by New York Puerto Rican Ashley C. Mariani (@camilleoncanvas), features work by 17 artists from all five boroughs.

There are live dance performances by IKIGAI USA (@ikigaiusa), Vanessa Long, Dancers Unlimited (dunyc-hi.com), and Monét Movement Productions (@mmp.thecollective).

IKIGAI USA is led by our guest curator Pooja Uberoi, “The Queen of Bollywood Dance,” so this must be a great show. She’s a beautiful dancer and a strong organizer. We can’t wait to dance Bollywood with Pooja. Her dancers are Pooja Uberoi, Laila Khawaja, Kathy Donatto, Bhavini Patel and Dhwani Doshi. Photo by @monkeywithcamera

The show features films by: Olga Rabetskaya, Alyssa Fuhrman, Ellen Sickenberger, Anabella  Lenzu, Mignolo Dance, Ying-Yu Lin, Leann Gioia, Continuum Dance Co., FangTing Yeh, Lauren Camp, Sam Lobel, and Rachel Daly.

Chashama Makes Art From The City Itself

The performance is made possible through support from City Artists Corps and Chashama.org

Chashama was founded in 1995 by actress and philanthropist Anita Durst of the New York real estate family to celebrate the legacy of Iranian playwright and director Reza Abdoh (1963-1995). He often staged performances in abandoned spaces.

Chashama repurposes empty New York real estate as pop-up cultural spaces. It’s a win-win-win for real estate owners, artists and all New Yorkers. Thank you Anita.

Women Are the Guardians of Culture

There is a lot of girl power here. Men often take the credit, but women are usually the guardians of culture.

We’ve just been through a tough cultural moment with the pandemic, but NYC is back. We can’t wait to see what these guardians of New York City culture have been dreaming up.
