Pooja Uberoi is a globally recognized Bollywood dance director, choreographer and creator of BollyJazz. She teaches Bollywood actors to dance, and has directed and choreographed some of the biggest Bollywood musicals ever staged in India and the United States. In the dance and theatre worlds, she is known as the “Queen of Bollywood Dance.”
In New York, Pooja is the founding Artistic Director of Ikigai USA dance company, producer of NYC Dance Week, and the originator of BollyJazz, a fun fusion of dance styles. She is the official Bollywood teacher for the Indian consulate in New York and has choreographed for Dollywood and “Sesame Street.”
Classical Indian Dance is the South Asian science of dance, just as ballet is in Europe. Bollywood dancing fuses Classical Indian Dance with Jazz and Hip-Hop. It includes the popular Bhangra. It’s a mashup of many South Asian traditions, just as India is a mashup of traditions and so is New York City. Uberoi’s life dream is to put authentic Bollywood on Broadway.
