The Dominican Republic
The Dominican Republic is a Caribbean country in the Greater Antilles. It was the Indigenous Taíno heartland, called “Quisqueya” (Mother of All Lands). Spanish colonizers called it Hispaniola (Little Spain).
The west side of the island is Haiti. We are taught to deny it, but many Dominicans are Haitian descent and a lot of Dominican culture has Haitian roots.
