Lady Gaga was Born This Way

Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta was born in the Upper East Side on March 28, 1986. She grew up in the Upper West Side.

As a teenager, she started hanging around the Lower East Side nightlife scene and started working with performance artist Lady Starlight.

There is no connection other than style, but Lady Gaga’s persona looks like she came out of the performance art world surrounding famed New York art dealer Jeffrey Deitch during those years. It’s a gender-bending, sometimes shocking style that makes meaningful social commentary like performance art.

Gaga is adored by the Gay community. She is an LGBT rights activist. Somehow Lady Gaga is part of the coming out of the LGBT community into mainstream acceptance that occurred in the last decade.
