About MetLife Stadium

The Meadowlands are part of New Jersey folklore. The area was originally marshes of the Hackensack River. As marshes fill in, they become grasslands or meadows. It used to be a wild place right next to The City. Manhattan’s Lincoln Tunnel basically points you to The Meadowlands, so it is easy to get to.

The sports complex that opened in 1976 included Giants Stadium and Meadowlands Racetrack. There is an urban legend that Jimmy Hoffa was buried there during construction. The Bruce Springsteen song “Wrecking Ball” is about the demolition of Giants Stadium (YouTube).

New Meadowlands Stadium replaced Giants Stadium in 2010. At the time, it was the most expensive stadium ever built. It was also the greenest NFL stadium. It was named MetLife Stadium in 2011.

Romeo Santos, “The King of Bachata,” was the first Latin artist to sell out the Stadium with his “Utopia: The Concert Tour” in 2019. Aventura, Santos’ Dominican bachata supergroup, sold out in 2021. Shakira “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour” sold out the Stadium in 2025.
