About Red Hook, Brooklyn

Red Hook, Brooklyn is a redeveloping waterfront seaport and industrial hub. It first grew when the Erie Canal turned New York City into America’s main port in 1825.

The northwestern waterfront faces Governors Island. The Valentino Pier in Louis J. Valentino, Jr. Park & Pier has great views of New York Harbor and the Statue of Liberty.

The waterfront is home to the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal, the Red Hook Container Terminal, Atlantic Basin and Erie Basin.

Pioneer Works is the community’s cultural center. It has a number of creative production studios and brings great Latin artists to the neighborhood.

The neighborhood is changing a lot, but “Red Hook Summer” is a great Spike Lee movie about the neighborhood back in 2012. Many of the old industrial landmarks that you used see from the harbor have been torn down. Today there is even an IKEA.

Brooklyn is New York’s “cool” borough.
