Spanish New York City used to be “Little Spain” on 14th St between Seventh and Eighth Ave. Spanish culture lives on in New York Flamenco, art, architecture, fashion, literature, and the cultural overlay of much of Latin America. Columbus Day and Hispanic Heritage Month are our main celebrations.

Rafael Guastavino (1842-1908) was a Spanish architect who created the Guastavino Tile based on a Catalan vault technique. He rebuilt the ceiling of the Ellis Island Great Hall, designed the central crossing of the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine. You can see his work in the ceilings of the Oyster Bar in Grand Central Terminal, the south arcade of the Manhattan Municipal Building, and Bridgemarket under the Queensboro Bridge.
