Santo Domingo Carnival is the climax of Dominican Carnival in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. It’s usually in February and coincides with Dominican Independence Day (February 27) celebrations, but not always. It can be the first Sunday in March.
Dominican Carnival is celebrated every Sunday in February. The celebrations combine:
- Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia, patron saint of the Dominican Republic, on January 21. 🇩🇴
- The birthday of Juan Pablo Duarte, Dominican founding father on January 26. 🇩🇴
- Dominican Carnival is every Sunday in February in towns across the Dominican Republic. El Vegano in La Vega, is the most famous. The climax is the Santo Domingo Carnival. 🇩🇴
- Dominican Independence Day on Monday, February 27, 2023. 🇩🇴
Santo Domingo Carnival 2024
Santo Domingo Carnival 2024, the climax of Dominican Carnival, is on the Malecon along Avenida George Washington from Presidente Vicini Burgos St (at el Obelisco de Santo Domingo) to Máximo Gómez Avenue, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on Sunday, March 3, 2024 at 2pm. Be prepared to pass through security. 🇩🇴
This year’s Carnival King is artist and designer Luis Rivas. The Carnival Queen is television personality Jatnna Tavárez. Luis Días music award winners are Yohansy Rodríguez, Charlie Santana, and Fernando Cabrera.
